INNELLAN BOWLING AND TENNIS CLUB 2021 Archive The 2021 season was badly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic Bowling Section FIRST VISITORS TO GREEN SINCE 2019 click pictures to enlarge We were so happy to have our kindred bowling friends from Upper Cowal, Bogleha, Kirn & Hunter's Quay, Dunoon Argyll & Ardentinny Bowling Clubs to our Green on Wednesday 11 August to play the first round of the Cowal Championships. It's been a long time coming & it couldn't have been a more perfect night. After a day of heavy rain & winds, the sun shone for us and a cruise ship sailed by. Its just great to see things returning to normal, albeit slowly. We still have to be careful, sanitizing, using track & trace & face masks when appropriate but there is light at the end of that very long tunnel. We look forward to a full calendar next Season & taking part in The Dunoon Tournament again, but until then, keep safe everyone. The Tennis Section arranged a wee tournament for members which turned into a very successful day, despite the damp conditions. The event was 'sponsored' by Margaret and Duncan Lauder who donated prizes of tennis balls. The ladies provided a great spread of home-baking and a good time was had by all, as can be seen in the pic of the winners & runners up. Thanks to the organisers. Hopefuly, the tennis courts will be up and running soon once the yearly court preparation is done. This involves clearing moss, relaying lines lifted by frost, and building up and rolling the blaes. Unfortunately court 2 was problematic this year but with members help we've been able to work our way through it. We've been lucky to be awarded a £900 grant from the Burnamakiman Hydro Scheme 2021 and part of this grant has been spent on replacement tennis net posts for court 2. These are in the process of being cemented in - once this is done the courts should be playable. Information about this will be given out on the tennis WhatsApp group. Like last year, the WhatsApp group will be used for booking time slots on the courts. This is important so a record can be kept for Track and Trace purposes caused by any Covid issues but also for keeping the number of players on the courts to a safe number. Again, like last year, there will be a combination lock on the gate to the courts once they are ready and safe for play - members will obviously be given the code for entry. Hopefully, we'll have a good summer and be able to play frequently and safely! Remember to check out all the Covid information that Kat, our Covid Officer, has placed about the courts. Ongoing information will be put on the tennis WhatsApp group. Club News Items SAD NEWS Jacky McLay, Past Member & Past President passed away on Wednesday 10 November. Myra FUN DAY IN THE SUN (click pictures to enlarge) For the first time since the end of Season 2019, we had a get together for the Members on Sunday 27 June, with bowling & tennis being enjoyed in the sunshine. It was great to get back out there and meet up with friends and some potential new members. We had 19 bowlers playing pairs/triples. Ernie Sykes & Dougie Lauffer were the winning pair. The tennis ladies enjoyed their game too and everyone enjoyed a wee cuppa while adhering to the safety regulations still in place. Let's hope it's not long before we do this again. Keep safe. Myra NEW DAY FOR WAPPENSCHAW It has been agreed that we change our Wappenschaw to a Wednesday afternoon at 2pm (for points). There will also be a Wappenschaw on Saturday afternoons at 2pm (friendly). Regards Myra SAD NEWS - ISABEL MCGILLIVRAY I got very sad news this afternoon from Isabel's son, Kenny, to say that his Mum passed away peacefully this morning with her family by her side. Isabel was a stalwart member of IBTC for many many years and was always willing to help out with any task when asked. She thoroughly enjoyed her bowls and although she wasn't able to play for the last few years, she kept in touch through email and was always interested in what was going on. She was made an Honorary Member in 2014 and was both honoured and delighted to accept as you will see from the beautiful picture below. Our heartfelt thoughts are with Gavin, Kenneth, Martin, Graham and all family members. As a sign of respect to Isabel from all her friends at IBTC, the Club flag has been set to half mast in her memory. We are waiting on the outcome of sportscotlands discussions with the Scottish Government on sporting activities and what this means for bowls. While we wait for the green light for our full guidance, we wanted to give clubs some interim information to allow clubs to plan for opening their greens from now until 27th April (Protection Level 4).
